What we check

  1. Size and shape

    The photo's proportions, pixel size and file size against your document's rules.

  2. Head and eye position

    Head height from chin to the top of the head, and for US photos, the eye height.

  3. Pose and expression

    Head straight, facing the camera, eyes open, mouth closed, and no smile where it's not allowed.

  4. Background and light

    A plain background of the right colour, even light on the face, brightness and sharpness.

No checker can promise acceptance. Officials also check things a computer can't, like whether the photo looks like you today.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The check runs in your browser and your photo never leaves your device.

What should I upload?
